I am Rebecca Sue Telesh and my friends and family know me as Becki.  I am Married to my husband Brian and we are proud parents of three children who are also students attending Shenendehowa Central Schools.  My oldest MaryAnn is finishing her last year of Middle School at Gowana and will be entering High School in the Fall.  Lisa and John both attend Karigon Elementary School.  I live in the Jonesville area of the Town of Clifton Park.

Our family chose this community to raise our family because of the Quality of Life and the Schools.  When I retired as a manager in the retail industry to raise our children I was putting their upbringing first.  Now that my youngest son John is finishing Kindergarten now is the time for me to share my passion and talents with the community.  I could easily choose to re-enter the workforce but feel that I can make a greater impact fighting for balance and results in the Shenendehowa Central Schools.

I am not your typical parent who wants to see more of your hard earned tax dollars spent so that my children can get more.  I like many of you know that the money we have been spending over the past 10 years has not resulted in better educational outcomes for our children.  Instead test scores are down and our neighbors tax money has been squandered.  I believe in three main principles

  • Quality Education

  • Fiscal Responsibility

  • Accountability

These are the pillars of not just a campaign but on who I am.  I live these values in my actions and will continue to do so as a member of the School Board.  From Day 1 of kindergarten in 2001 until today I have consistently volunteered in many capacities in our children's classrooms.  I have seen first hand how tough it is for our teachers to accomplish their mission of Quality Education.  We are blessed to have a school system that welcomes parent volunteers into the classrooms.  Over these years I have seen increases in the budget with no discernable positive impact on the classroom.

I like many of you question where is the money going?  This is why I will make Fiscal Responsibility a key component of what I want to accomplish for you on the School Board.  Read more specifics on "The Issues" web page.  I live the role of fiscal responsibility and sacrifice.  When leaving a very good paying department manager position with a major retailer to raise our children I put my priorities in sync with my values.  Making this change caused me to make decisions that resulted in a good quality of life while being fiscally responsible with the other household budget matters.  I along with my husband make choices every day but never feel deprived.  Living within our means and looking for the lowest costs are part of my day to day life.  This philosophy is vividly absent in the administration at the Shenendehowa Central Schools.  My experience, values and tenacious belief in we can do better if we focus and spend on what is truly important is just what is needed on the School Board.

Accountability is about being involved.  Just because I have been active in raising my family I have been accountable to myself and to my community.  I do this in many ways besides volunteering at school.  I am an active member of:

  • PTA organization at all the schools - Including 4 years coordinating the Bake Sales

  • Co-Chair Fundraising Golf Outing outing annually

  • Coordinator of Altar Bread Bakers and an Usher at my Church

  • Active Girl Scouts / Brownie parent

  • Ronald McDonald House Volunteer

  • Participant in numerous charitable fundraising efforts including Susan G. Komen and American Cancer Society.

Accountability is also about being a good steward of out tax payers and schools.  Accountability is also about results.  We need to be accountable to our community when making decisions and keep our focus on the classroom.

I care deeply about our community, our children and our schools.  I have the motivation, common sense and fresh ideas to help bring balance to the School Board.  If you feel your voice has been ignored, let me be your voice.  Vote Rebecca Telesh for School Board.
